Phytalessence Red Yeast Rice 60 Capsules is a dietary supplement based on red yeast rice, which contains monacolin K (or lovastatin), a natural statin that inhibits hepatic cholesterol synthesis.
Monacolin inhibits the action of HMG CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of cholesterol. By neutralizing this enzyme, monacolin decreases the hepatic production of cholesterol and thus helps reduce blood cholesterol levels.
